According to a reliable source, Apple will finally announce the AirPods Pro 2 at its ‘Far Out’ event, three years after the original was released.
Apple‘s upcoming ‘Far Out’ launch event will be one of the biggest of 2022, and a new report pretty much confirms that the company will also release the AirPods Pro 2 alongside the new iPhones. Apple launched the AirPods Pro in 2019, and the wireless earbuds are still among the best currently available, going up against the more recently launched Pixel Buds Pro and Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro.
At the moment, Apple sells four different versions of AirPods. The most affordable are the AirPods (2nd generation), followed by the AirPods 3 that came out in 2021. Then there are the AirPods Pro and the AirPods Max. All the headphones have their unique selling point, either based on features or price. While the standard AirPods provide the classic AirPods experience, the AirPods Max are Apple’s only over-the-ear headphones.
In May 2021, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said that Apple would be releasing new AirPods and AirPods Pro earbuds. While the new AirPods were launched as the AirPods (3rd generation) last year, Apple didn’t release a successor to the original AirPods Pro. In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman has listed the devices he expects will be announced at Apple’s upcoming event, and among these are the AirPods Pro 2. Other devices include four iPhone 14 models and three new Apple Watch models, including the Apple Watch SE 2.
What To Expect From The AirPods Pro 2
While Gurman highlights some aspects of the upcoming iPhones and Apple Watches, he does not mention much about the AirPods Pro 2. Nevertheless, there is plenty of information on the internet to draw a conclusion of what the AirPods Pro 2 may look like and offer in terms of features. As per a previous report, Apple may omit the optical sensor at the bottom of the current AirPods Pro’s stem and replace it with a skin detection sensor in the upcoming iteration. The next generation of ‘Pro’ wireless earphones from Apple could also come with a redesigned charging case that has circular vents at the bottom.
The AirPods Pro 2 have also been rumored to feature fitness tracking capabilities, given that Apple recently patented an in-ear mechanism to monitor health-related metrics such as body temperature, heart rate, and more. However, given that it’s a new patent, the feature might only be available on the AirPods Pro 3. The AirPods Pro 2 could also feature an updated H1 chip, enabling better noise cancellation and improved battery efficiency. Additionally, users can expect general sound quality improvements from the AirPods Pro 2.
