Leaked renders point to Google’s Pixel 6 shedding the boring tag

    Pixel 6

It could easily be said that the last time Google managed to launch a good-looking handset was when it launched the Pixel 4. Ever since then, we’ve had to make do with the same bland design that has been the Pixel 3a, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and Pixel 5. Boring, boring, boring. So boring that even Google’s usually quirky colorways couldn’t move the needle from the boring mark. But, if some leaked renders are even halfway accurate, it seems that someone at Google has taken command of the design department with the intention of giving the Pixel 6 an eye-catching exterior.

The renders come courtesy of Jon Prosser who is a little hit and miss in terms of reliability, but when he gets it right he usually gets it right in a big way, unlike the time he said that the Pixel 5a was totally canceled. Anyhow, forget all that because renders of what could be the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro has been posted, revealing a wild design that you simply can’t stop looking at. With some obvious inspiration take from the Nexus 6P, these renders show off a horizontal camera strip that houses a dual-camera setup on the Pixel 6, and a trio of cameras on the Pixel 6 Pro. The orange bit above the camera housing contrasts nicely with the black glass and also the white and what could be a ‘Not Orange’ colorway.

Once you’ve stopped gawking at these seemingly unlikely but mesmerizing designs, you’ll be wondering what the chances are that they are entirely accurate. To that, we have to throw our hands up in the air and admit that we simply don’t know. I can tell you that I hope they are real and that these renders are indeed indicative of the finished articles, the smartphone world needs Google to flex and move out of its boring comfort zone after the tame old designs we’ve seen the past couple of years.

What are your thoughts about the alleged Pixel 6 renders?

He’s been an Android fan ever since owning an HTC Hero, with the Dell Streak being his first phablet. He currently carries an OPPO Find X2 Pro in his pockets, a Galaxy Tab S5e in his backpack, and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around the world. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he’s an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
