Samsung’s A-series showcases devices that provide sensible specifications for their price point, though they don’t max out on the “premium-ness” the way the S models do. We’ve seen a few A-series phones launch this year, but the A55 is the highest-end option, and thanks to WinFuture, we now know everything about it.

First off, design-wise, we’re going to see a change to a mostly flat aluminum frame (except for the raised “Key Island” around the power button and volume rocker), which brings the design closer to the S24. There’s a flat glass back panel and a flat 6.5-inch 120Hz FHD+ display, with a peak brightness of 1000 nits. It also carries an IP67 rating.

Inside the phone, Samsung launches the new Exynos 1480 chipset, and we’re excited to see how it performs. There’ll be a 6GB/128GB and an 8GB/256GB configuration, though you’ll get the option to expand your storage with a microSD card if you’re willing to give up the second SIM slot. It’ll also be rocking a 5,000 mAh battery with a top charging speed of 25W, with no wireless charging.

On paper, the cameras are good for their weight class: a 50MP main snapper, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 5MP macro. Personally, I don’t think the average person gets much use out of macro lenses, but let us know in the comments if you do. The selfie camera is a 32MP unit. You’ll be able to shoot at 4K/30 on both the front and rear.

The A55 Makes Only Minor Improvements Over The A54

If you’re looking for a new device and one of Samsung’s high-end A-series smartphones seems like the way to go, you might want to know if you should be in line for the A55 at launch, or whether the Galaxy A54 will be sufficient, especially considering it’ll save you a lot of money. To be honest, there aren’t too many differences between these phones and whether the A55 is the one for you depends on what you value the most.

The design is one major difference: you get the raised Key Island, a flat frame instead of a rounded one, and the frame material changes to aluminum from plastic. It will definitely look more modern and feel more premium as a result. You’ll also get a 0.1-inch bump on the screen (maybe due to shrinking bezels), One UI 6.1 out of the box, and the new Exynos 1480. That’s pretty much it.

However, we’re yet to see whether Galaxy AI, even a stripped-down version, will make its way over to the A55. If it does, that could be a major factor in favor of getting the new phone.

What To Know About The A55’s Pricing And Availability

Based on the leaks, the Samsung Galaxy A55 should start at about $487 for the 6GB/128GB model, and push up to about $540 for the 8GB/256GB configuration. Keep your eyes locked and your calendars set to March 11th, when the phone is expected to be released.
