The Quad 50MP Camera System Makes Its Way Back To The Xiaomi 14 Ultra
Thanks to a leak from Yogesh Brar on X, we’ve been able to get a very solid look into the specs of the upcoming Xiaomi 14 Ultra. Unsurprisingly, the hardware is top-notch, but the camera setup caught our eye first.
Every single rear camera in the 14 Ultra looks like it’ll be 50MP, and that includes a wide camera (likely with a 1-inch sensor and f/1.63 aperture), an ultrawide, a 3.2x telephoto, and a 5x periscope telephoto. It’ll also come with Leica optics. The primary camera is a 32MP unit. That’s pretty much the same setup that the Xiaomi 13 Ultra had. There may be slight modifications to sensor sizes or focal lengths, though, and we can bet we’ll see minor camera software improvements.
We also get a glimpse into some of the other specs that the phone is bound to carry. It’ll have a 5,300 mAh battery with 90W of wired charging to juice it up quickly. It’ll come with a 6.73-inch QHD+ 120Hz LTPO AMOLED display and run on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
A Photo Enthusiast’s Phone: Might We See Another Photography Kit?
It’s clear that Xiaomi wanted the 13 Ultra to be recognized as a camera king, so they released a Photography Kit as an additional purchase. This came with a protective phone case, a two-stage shutter grip that fits easily over the included case, a lens cap, a 67mm filter adapter, and a lanyard.
It makes it easier to hold your phone, especially when taking landscape shots, and provides a physical shutter button. Plus, if you’ve got 67mm filters lying around, like an ND filter or a polarizing filter, you can now use them with your smartphone!
But the question is, might we see a similar accessory for the Xiaomi 14 Ultra? The previous Photography Kit was only released in China for about $130, and it seemed to be received rather well. There’s a possibility that the kit will remain compatible with the 14 Ultra, but if not, I think we may see a new one released.
Will the Xiaomi 14 Ultra Bring Massive Improvements Over The 13 Ultra?
If you have a Xiaomi 13 Ultra, you might consider upgrading to the 14 Ultra once it launches. The question is, does it bring enough over its predecessor to make that worth it?
It’ll be hard to answer that until the entire spec sheet is released or leaked, but it looks like the cameras, the screen, and the charging will remain the same. The phone will upgrade from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to the Gen 3, and it also looks like the battery will bump up to 5,300 mAh — a 300 mAh boost. It will also run on Android 14.
