When it comes to compact flagship smartphones, there’s little to choose from these days but there could soon be a new contender unveiled by Asus. Called the ZenFone 9, the compact phone has a sub-6-inch display, is powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip, and boasts a dual rear camera setup that features a gimbal function for stable imagery. It’s launch must be soon because Asus briefly posted a promotional video for the upcoming compact flagship which might be unveiled on July 28th according to an image shown in the footage.
Having posted the promotional video of the ZenFone 9 on its official YouTube channel, Asus soon removed the listing but not before it was re-uploaded by TechGoing and promptly shared by WinFuture. The design of the ZenFone 9
Besides being powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, the ZenFone 9 packs in a 4,300mAh battery which isn’t too much of a compromise considering that a 3.5mm audio jack is also present. The 5.9-inch AMOLED display has up to 120Hz refresh rate, and a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera.
Speaking of cameras, the rear setup consists of the popular 50MP IMX766 sensor which benefits from a “gimbal” which allows the lens to move in order to countenance vibrations and the movement of the phone, similar to what Vivo’s X60 Pro had . The second camera is said to be an ultra-wide lens although that has yet to be confirmed.
Pleasingly, the ZenFone 9 also sports IP68 water and dust protection, along with stereo speakers, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor which is reportedly also able to be used for scrolling and swiping functions.
