Leaker says iOS 19 mockups ‘aren’t representative’ of redesign

iOS 19 may get more extensive redesign after all

It’s yet another battle of the leakers as historically accurate Mark Gurman points out that Jon Prosser’s iOS 19 mockups are missing key details, and the true redesign will be more extensive.

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman may have had a rough early 2025, missing on several aspects of Apple’s new product rollout, but he’s not afraid to point out when other leakers aren’t quite right. Gurman shared in a social media post that the latest mockups from Prosser are likely based on outdated or incomplete information.

These sentiments echo our earlier analysis of the mockups, which show a blend of old and new UI elements. Some aspects seem to take from Apple Vision Pro, while others seem wholly new and push iOS further from visionOS as it exists today.

Here’s what Gurman shared on the mockups.

Given the dates in the iMessage chat and the original Camera app leak, Prosser likely has a very old set of information. As we’ve noted before, leaks generally arrive months after the information came into existence.

For example, if Prosser’s source shared the leak in late December, that information was likely “new” around October. If that’s the case, then it was well before iOS 19 was likely finalized.

The lack of specific details beyond simple light-reflective circles being added to buttons, elongated modal window UI, and mild references to Apple’s Sports and Invites app make these leaks feel incomplete.

Gurman suggests that he has seen something more recent, or at least has been tipped off that Prosser’s mockups aren’t quite right. Either way, he’s right, people do like mockups.

Note too that Prosser did take a bit of a dig at Mark Gurman during The Genius Bar podcast. He pointed out that Gurman’s history isn’t rock solid either, though Prosser is the only one of the two that bet their eyebrows.

During the podcast, Prosser shared a report from Daring Fireball‘s John Gruber suggesting that Gurman was late to the iOS 19 redesign story with a vague comment. In the video, Prosser promised images, not text, and delivered.

It’ll be interesting to see whether elements of Prosser’s mockups appear in the final release, or if Apple scraps the whole thing with a completely different design. All will be revealed in June at WWDC 2025.
