The Pixel Watch, Pixel Watch 2, And Upcoming Pixel Watch 3 All Look Exactly The Same
We’ve been anticipating the release of the Google Pixel Watch 3, which we know is going to be the accompaniment to the Google Pixel 9 series which is slated to launch in October. We don’t know much about the upcoming smartwatch, but thanks to a collaboration between 91mobiles and OnLeaks, we have a look at some high-quality renders of the upcoming smartwatch. It’s a bit disappointing though, because you’ve certainly seen this before.
Looking at the leaked renders, there really isn’t anything new about the Pixel Watch 3, at least physically. It looks just like the Pixel Watch 2, which in turn, looked just like the Pixel Watch 1. So, if you were hoping that your brand new Pixel Watch 3 would instantly be recognized as the latest model, that’s not going to be the case.
The Pixel Watch 3 will be a bit thicker than the previous generation, which is the only notable physical change that you’re going to see with the new device. This increased thickness is expected to allow the newer watch to house a larger capacity battery, which is a good thing at least, though this is rumored to be about 307 mAh (which is a negligible amount more than 306 mAh in the Pixel Watch 2, so hopefully it won’t actually be that small of a change). The screen size is expected to stay at 1.2 inches too.
It’s also suggested that the Pixel Watch 3 may finally be the one to offer more than just one size option in Google’s smartwatch catalog. 41mm is just too small for a lot of folks, and a 45mm option, as suggested, might give the option of a bigger display and a much bigger battery.
Google Isn’t A Company To Depend On When Looking For (Good) Design Changes
Before the Pixel 6 series of smartphones brought the design language that Google has stuck to for its smartphones, the company was very undecided on how it wanted its smartphones to look, changing things up every year, and a lot of the time, it wasn’t for the better. The Pixel 3 XL is still one of the worst-looking phones in my opinion, thanks to that horrible notch.
Google has found a design that “works” for them for the Pixel Watch series, which is great. But sometimes, consumers want to see something that looks different and will actually make them feel like they have a new device. But then, perhaps the 45mm variant (if it pans out) might fulfill that.
