Lenovo Is Gearing Up To Launch A Slidable Tablet In 2025

Unfortunately, while both sources corroborated the existence of the product, this newer detail directly contradicts the 17-inch size rumored two days prior. This does not really deny the previous display size info, at least. As such, it remains unclear whether the device will come in two different sizes, or if one of the sources has inaccurate information. Keep in mind that Lenovo may also still be finalizing the specifications as you read this article.

Young further suggests that the tablet is being developed as a hybrid device, capable of functioning as both a tablet and a laptop. It is expected to support stylus input, similar to many of Samsung’s flagship tablets and smartphones.

Behind the Scenes

Lenovo’s foray into slidable tablet technology comes after the company introduced foldable displays with the Lenovo X1 Fold. With this development on the horizon, the PC maker seems to now be looking to push the boundaries further by incorporating slidable displays into its product lineup.

Samsung, as the supplier of the slidable display, has been showcasing its ongoing developments in display technology during the last few CES events. In its dedicated booths, the company sampled its various foldable, rollable, and slidable displays, including the Flex Hybrid, which can be folded like Samsung’s Fold phones while also offering a sliding option.

In fact, the particular display that would be used for Lenovo’s slidable was already first demonstrated during CES 2022. Samsung is even rumored to be working on its own slidable tablet/laptop hybrid using the same technology. So it wouldn’t be surprising if the company would introduce a similar product in the coming years.

Implications and Market Impact

Lenovo’s slidable tablet, if released as planned, would make the company the first to bring consumer-centric slidable tablets to the market. This move could potentially provide another development vector for the “boring” tablet and smartphone industry, offering users a newer kind of tablet/laptop hybrid that can be categorically different from other products that already tested similar gimmicks.

As for when to expect the product. Young’s confirmation did provide us with a Q2 release timeline for 2025. This equates to a release window that is between April and June next year. Even before that, we can probably expect a more precise launch timeline in the coming months, along maybe with additional details about the tablet’s features and specifications.
