For Avid Android Gamers, The Lenovo Legion Tab Brings Everything You Need
The Lenovo Legion Y700 (2023) is the company’s second attempt at a Y700 tablet, and for gamers, it is oh-so-good. It is being released in international markets simply as the Lenovo Legion Tab. If you’ve been looking for a better device to use for Call Of Duty: Mobile, PUBG, Real Racing 3, emulators, and so on, this might be the tablet of your dreams.
The Design
The first thing you’ll notice is that the Lenovo Legion Tab is big. It has a flat display, a flat back panel, and a flat frame. It feels great to hold because the device houses its guts in a CNC-machined metallic unibody.
The bezels around the screen aren’t super slim, but it’s better that way, as gamers will need some part of the phone to hold onto (that’s not the screen itself). There’s a cutout for the selfie camera in the top bezel, a rounded rectangle housing two cameras and a flash in the upper corner of the back panel. You’ll also find “Lenovo” and “Legion” branding on the back.
The device also has two USB-C ports — one on the bottom edge and another on the side edge, but we’ll discuss that later. Did I mention that it is only 7.6mm thick and weighs just 350 grams?
The Screen
The device comes with a huge QHD+ IPS LCD 8.8-inch display. It is also Dolby Vision and HDR10 certified, guaranteeing great colors. Plus, its refresh rate maxes out at 144Hz, which is a perfect perk for gamers and sets it apart from most other mobile devices that only max out at 120Hz.
The Internal Hardware
Inside the tablet is a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 running the show, along with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage (though you’ll be able to expand that with a microSD card as you please). And since this tablet is expected to be put through its paces, it comes with Legion ColdFront: Vapor, which is the company’s thermal solution that is expected to keep your device running as cool as possible for as long as possible.
The battery is 6,550 mAh, and one of the two USB-C ports can charge it up to 45W. Speaking of the two USB-C ports, Lenovo decided to fit it with two so that whether you’re gaming in landscape or portrait orientation and charging at the same time, your cable won’t have to get in the way. In addition, the bottom USB-C port (when the tablet is in landscape mode) is USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 (the other is just USB-C 2.0), so it supports DisplayPort Out and not just quick charging.
The Lenovo Legion Tab has three cameras, though you shouldn’t expect much from them. The selfie cam is 8MP, the primary rear lens is 13MP and is paired with a 2MP macro module.
The Software
When the device was released in China last year, it came with Android 13. Hopefully, that will be updated to Android 14 for the international markets, but that is looking unlikely. You also get access to Lenovo Freestyle, which is software that will make it easy to share your gaming clips to your Lenovo Legion Laptop (if you have one).
The Price And Availability
The Lenovo Legion Tab will launch in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) and Asian territories this month, starting at $655. We’ll keep our fingers crossed for a wider release.
