Gaming Portal, a feature on webOS smart TVs for playing cloud games and a limited selection of remote-compatible games, is getting a wider rollout. It will be offered in more regions and on other devices, including LG Smart Monitors and StanbyME screens.
Right now, it’s available on LG Smart TVs with webOS 23 and later in nineteen markets. However, the Gaming Portal should be in a lot more regions by the second quarter of the year. It’s a feature that makes it easier to find and access games. It works with popular cloud gaming services like NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna, Boosteroid, Blacknut, and soon Xbox Cloud Gaming. The addition of Xbox isn’t surprising. Microsoft has been trying to get its Game Pass service on multiple new platforms, even putting it on Amazon Fire TVs.
Besides cloud games, the Gaming Portal also has some games that can be played directly from the webOS app. This is meant to act like a regular browser and is supposed to be user-friendly, so any owners won’t need extra consoles or devices to play many of the games.
LG TVs with the Gaming Portal have features that improve picture quality and response time. They support 4K resolution at 120Hz with variable refresh rates (VRR), which helps reduce screen tearing for smoother gameplay. Some models also work with NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium.
Getting around the Gaming Portal is easy. Games are organized in a way that makes them simple to find. Users can filter games based on how they want to play, either using a remote control or a gamepad. There are also sections for trending games, editor’s picks, and titles that players have recently played, which helps users discover new games for themselves.
The My Page section lets users keep track of their achievements, collect badges, and manage a list of their favorite games. This personalized feature boosts user engagement and helps players see their gaming progress. So it’s a lot like PSN or Xbox Live’s account sections for users to see their stats. Gaming seems to be a bigger part of LG’s future.
