MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac models facing shipping delays ahead of anticipated M4 refresh

Highlighted by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, custom configurations of M3 MacBook Pro, M2 Mac mini, and M3 iMac are currently facing extensive shipping delays. If you order one today, they won’t arrive until nearly the end of the month.

Shipping delays on custom configurations of outgoing models is common, and tends to happen when Apple is about to refresh a product. It isn’t a surefire way of knowing that something is coming, however. For example, iPad mini stock began dwindling ahead of Apple’s “Glowtime” September event, and there was still no iPad mini refresh at that event.

However, despite the fact that it isn’t consistent, it’s a good sign. It’s generally a sign of Apple slowing down production of custom configurations.

As a refresher, Apple is expected to begin transitioning the Mac lineup to the M4 family of chips this month, starting with the 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro, 24″ iMac, and Mac mini. The Mac mini in particular is going to be an exciting refresh, with an all new design.

All base model M4 Macs are expected to gain at least 16GB of RAM by default, as well. This breaks Apple’s tradition of including 8GB of RAM by default, which the company started doing in 2016.
