BHOPAL: The newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) of the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW), Upendra Jain, called for a massive review of all ongoing investigations while looking forward to the modernisation and upgrading of the department with the introduction of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions and other IT-based systems. His aim is to enhance efficiency, improve case management, and increase transparency within the department.
Jain’s move comes in response to the growing number of pending cases, some of which were unresolved for over a decade. Speaking to TOI, Jain stressed the need for leveraging technology to improve the EOW’s functioning. “This drive is focused on achieving transparency, objectivity, and accountability. We would be able to keep track of all investigations at my fingertips, ensuring transparency at every step. A zero-tolerance policy will be adopted to address inefficiency,” said Jain.
Jain called for a thorough review of all ongoing cases, urging investigating officers across all EOW units to come prepared with comprehensive status updates on their investigations. This major review will help identify bottlenecks and hold officers accountable for any delays or lapses in the investigation process.
In his bid to modernise the EOW, Jain announced the introduction of an ERP system to enable better tracking and management of ongoing investigations. This system will provide real-time data on cases, ensure optimal resource allocation, and streamline the investigative process. The ERP system will improve coordination between departments, allowing for smoother interactions with other law enforcement agencies such as the Cyber Crime Unit, Income Tax Department, and the Banking Frauds Investigation Unit.
Jain’s initiative to introduce ERP solutions is expected to bring greater transparency and accountability to the department. As part of the overhaul, Jain is also launching a new mobile application designed to facilitate public complaints and improve internal communications within the EOW. The app will enable citizens to easily report economic offenses and help streamline in-house operations, further enhancing transparency and accountability.
Jain also announced plans to establish an enhanced laboratory within the EOW to tackle emerging threats such as digital fraud, cryptocurrency crimes, and other tech-related financial offenses, which have seen a rise in the state.
These reforms are viewed as a critical step toward modernising the EOW and addressing the backlog of long-pending cases. The ERP system and mobile app rollout, expected to begin in mid-2025, will lay the foundation for a more efficient, technologically advanced, and transparent Economic Offenses Wing.
