MagSafe charging with a fan

As iPhones have become more powerful, they’ve also become hotter—especially during heavy usage periods with games on Apple Arcade, video conferencing, etc. Combine that with MagSafe, and you see the opportunity for an iPhone to get warmer very quickly. AUKEY aims to solve both problems with the new AUKEY MagFusion GameFrost Active Cooling Wireless Charger. Let’s take a look at how it works.

MagSafe Monday: Every Monday, Bradley Chambers looks at the latest and greatest in the MagSafe and wireless charging industry to help you get the most out of your Apple devices that support wireless charging.

After spending some time with the AUKEY MagFusion GameFrost, I can confidently say this might be one of the most interesting MagSafe-style chargers for people who push their iPhones to the limit. While many MagSafe chargers go for thinness, the AUKEY LC-G10 MagFusion GameFrost Qi2 Active Cooling Wireless Charger goes to the opposite extreme. It’s one of the thickest you’ll find. It includes a fan inside the charger to keep your iPhone cool while it’s charging. Noise-wise, it’s fairly quiet, but it does have a fan, so it’ll be louder than a charger without a fan. AUKEY claims that it can keep your iPhone up to 20 degrees cooler.

You’ll get the charging puck and a nice braided USB-C cable in the box. I am noticing more and more devices, including braided cables, which is a welcome trend. Braided cables are much nicer to the touch and tend to hold up better.

What is Qi2?

I talk a lot about Qi2, and it’s something that you should be looking for with all of your new MagSafe accessories Qi2 is the Wireless Power Consortium’s current standard, improving wireless charging by integrating a Magnetic Power Profile built on top of Apple’s MagSafe technology that was originally released with the iPhone 12. This standard aims to ensure precise alignment between devices and chargers, leading to more efficient and faster charging at up to 15 watts (this is the current max). While Qi2 is backward compatible, allowing older Qi devices to charge on Qi2 chargers, some new Qi2 devices may not work with older Qi chargers.

The AUKEY MagFusion GameFrost includes Qi2 support. While the active cooling system keeps it cooler, the maximum it can charge is 15 watts.

Wrap up on AUKEY MagFusion GameFrost

The AUKEY MagFusion GameFrost is a legitimately helpful upgrade over standard MagSafe chargers if you use your iPhone while charging. It’s great for gaming with games that push the iPhone’s power to its maximum. Since it has a fan, I wouldn’t recommend it for a nightstand, but it’s a great charger otherwise.

You can buy the AUKEY MagFusion GameFrost directly from AUKEY.
