Maine police warn residents of bitcoin ATM scams

Officials in Portland, Maine are warning residents of a rise of scams involving bitcoin ATMs. Scammers will claim that victims have a billing issue, or their personal information was compromised and they need to move their money to a safe account using a bitcoin ATM, according to a report by WMTW.

When users deposit cash into the bitcoin ATM, it goes directly to the scammer’s wallet. Police say the criminals use fear tactics to get users to comply.

Police advise residents to change passwords, stop communication with the scammer and notify your bank.
