Messenger Gets Better: HD Photos, Shared Albums, 100MB Files

Messenger Is Getting A Very Thoughtful New Set Of Features

With the sheer number of people who use Facebook Messenger daily, the new set of features added to the messaging app is very much needed, and you’ll certainly use a couple of these frequently, if not daily.

Share HD Photos

If there’s any feature that will get the most use among the new ones, it is the ability to finally share pictures with friends and family in high definition. I use WhatsApp a lot more than Messenger, and it has had this feature for a ridiculously long time, but delay is not denial — it’s finally here, and that’s what matters, isn’t it?

All you need to do is follow the steps you’d normally follow to send an image from inside the app, but tap the HD toggle from the top-right corner of the image panel before you do. There you go! A crispy picture!

Send Files As Large As 100MB

Yes, we’ve got Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, email, and so on, but it is hard to deny that it is a lot easier to send a file directly to someone through a chat app. You’ve been able to send files through Messenger before, though the limit was 25MB. That can be too small a lot of the time, and thankfully, the file size limit has just quadrupled. You’ll be able to send files in all major formats up to 100MB in size.

Make Shared Albums

If you’ve got a group chat with a bunch of like-minded people, whether friends, family, or colleagues, you may sometimes find yourselves needing to compile a set of related pictures into one spot. Instead of having Uncle George go from person to person compiling all the photos from his niece’s wedding, use a shared album instead.

You can make a shared album in a group chat and other people will be able to view and download the images in the album, as well as add some and delete them too. To create a shared album, just select a bunch of photos that are going to go into the album and tap “Create album”. It’s that easy. If an album already exists, tap “Add to album” instead.

Connect With Friends Using A QR Code

Why bother asking for names or phone numbers when trying to add someone on Messenger when they’re right in front of you and you’re both holding your phones? Let them show you their QR code and you’ll be able to scan it and add them instantly. You’ll also be able to share a link with them, in case they can’t scan your code.

To do this, just go into Settings and press the QR code icon in the top-left corner. Now, all they need to do is scan it with their camera.
