It’s been a moment since Mobvoi launched its first Wear OS 3 smartwatch but today brings a follow-up wearable called the TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro which packs a couple more bells and whistles. Having said that, you’ll find that the regular TicWatch Pro 5 provides the foundation for the Enduro model, but with enhanced battery life, a tweaked rotating crown, and a more durable display.
What’s New?
Let’s be clear, Mobvoi didn’t reinvent the wheel with the Enduro. There are some noticeable differences between the Enduro and the regular TicWatch Pro 5, however. The Enduro is aimed more at those spending time outdoors and as such it now sports a Sapphire Crystal glass display to protect against scratches and the rotating bezel has also been tweaked. Comparing images of the two devices below, it would seem that another difference is that on the Enduro, the textured strip is on the outside of the dial whereas on the regular 5 Pro, it’s on the inside.
As with the previous model, the TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro is powered by the Snapdragon W5+ chipset. More useful is the announcement that the Enduro benefits from an additional ten hours of battery life, taking it up to 90 hours when on Smart Mode, and 45 days on Essential Mode.
Naturally, you’ll find the dual display system which is unique to Mobvoi’s TicWatch Pro series, offering the option of using a monochrome watch face with basic information so as to extend battery life.
On the software side of things, the TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro runs Wear OS 3.5 out of the box. This is a little disappointing seeing as we are already beginning to chat about Wear OS 5.0 which could debut on Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 7 series later this year. Otherwise, Mobvoi has consolidated the health-tracking functions into the TicHealth app which makes it all more user-friendly. You’ll also find Snore Detection and a 12-month VIP ‘sleep subscription within the Mobvoi Health app.
The TicExercise app is also refreshed with a larger UI and additional workouts such as cross-country skiing.
How Much?
Available only in Obsidian Black, Mobvoi has priced the TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro at $349 on its website as well as on Amazon. Considering that the regular TicWatch Pro 5 offers much the same experience and hardware, it could be the better buy seeing as it is now available for just $227, benefitting from a massive $122 discount on its RRP.
