When it comes to clamshell foldables that can be purchased without stress in the West, there are essentially only two options—the Galaxy Z Fold line and the Motorola Razr models. While Samsung has been the popular choice for most people, last year showed me that the Razr smartphones were being severely underrated.
This year, we expect to see the Razr 60 and Razr 60 Ultra, and we expect to seem them arrive in the near future. They’ll be competing with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the rumored Z Flip FE, but if new rumors turn out to be true, the Razr 60 Ultra should blow the Galaxy option out of the water.
The Motorola Razr 60 Ultra Is Expected to Have an Even Bigger Battery
The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra is a good-looking smartphone. It pretty much claims all the space on its lid for the cover display, which helped it look a lot more modern when placed beside the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The Razr 60 Ultra is expected to be essentially identical in terms of its dimensions and screens.
Despite the fact that the upcoming device will have the same footprint as its predecessor, it will somehow be coming with a notably larger battery in tow. The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra managed to fit a 4,000mAh cell (on par with the Z Flip 6), but that’s not the standard that Motorola wants to set for itself.
Thanks to its certification on TENAA, a Chinese regulatory body, we now know that the Razr 60 Ultra will come with a 4,500mAh battery. That bump is nothing to scoff at, especially in its form factor.
An Unheard-Of 18GB/2TB Configuration Could Potentially Be in the Works
The TENAA certification provides a lot of useful information. For instance, we know that it is going to have a maximum clock speed of 4.32GHz, which confirms that the Snapdragon 8 Elite is the chip of choice. We also know that 8GB and 12GB RAM choices, and 256GB and 512GB storage options, will be available just like last year.
However, sticking to the storage configurations, the certification reveals something pretty astounding. Not only will there be a 16GB RAM option and a 1TB storage option added, but the phone is apparently going to have a choice with 18GB of RAM and 2TB of storage, almost certainly exclusive as the top model. Memory and storage that high are almost never seen in the smartphone space, especially for a non-gaming device.
But before you get too excited, it is extremely likely that those higher-end models simply won’t find their way to the international scene.
The Razr 60 Ultra Will Also See One Camera Upgrade
In the photo department, the cameras on the cover are expected to stay in a dual 50MP configuration. However, the 32MP unit on the inside of the phone will be upgraded to a 50MP unit, bringing everything on par.
The Razr 60 Ultra looks set to close up all its weak points, and if it does so successfully, Samsung is going to have serious competition to deal with. An increase to its 45W charging speed could be the final nail in the coffin.
