The Design

The first thing that you’ll notice about the Motorola Edge (2024) is that it brings Motorola’s new design language, melding the entire back panel into one piece that just slightly curves over the camera module, which is a much more modern look than last year’s offering. You also get a vegan leather back, which the company seems to be really into.

The frame is made of aluminum and you get IP68 dust and water resistance with this smartphone. It is available in a single color, which is a very sexy Midnight Blue. I don’t think many people will have objections to that.

The Screen

Motorola tends not to pull punches on its display tech and the same stays true with the Edge (2024). You get a 6.6-inch FHD+ pOLED display that curves substantially over the left and right edges of the phone. The company opts for a 144 Hz display, which is impressive considering many flagships choose to stick with 120 Hz (but not Moto). The touch sampling rate is 360 Hz, so your inputs are picked up a whole lot quicker than most other devices. The fingerprint scanner lives inside the screen too.

The Hardware

The Motorola Edge (2024) runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chip, which is an impressive midrange chip and a good spot for the company to pick at the device’s price. It’s far from the best option on the market though but it should get more than enough done for you.

You’ll also get the single option of an 8GB/256GB storage configuration. You will also get a 5,000 mAh battery (a healthy jump over last year’s 4,400 mAh cell) that you can charge up with up to 68W of Motorola’s TurboPower charging, and when you decide to opt for wireless charging, you get 15W in that department.

In other news, you get Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E, NFC, and a USB Type-C 3.1 port with DisplayPort 1.4 support. The device also has what Motorola calls a Quick Button, which lets you launch any of your favorite apps, or even perform a certain action in an app.

The Cameras

The Edge (2024) has a pretty decent camera setup. The main shooter is a 50MP camera that uses a Sony LYTIA sensor and has OIS working in its favor too, and that’s paired with a 13MP ultrawide that doubles as a macro lens. You’ll be able to record 4K at 30fps. The front camera is a 32MP sensor, nothing too crazy. You’ll be able to record FHD at 60fps.

The Motorola Edge (2024) is going to be available unlocked from June 20th in the United States, and carriers will start carrying the device whenever they feel like after that. The best part is that the device is going to cost just $549.99. And yes, that’s “just”, considering its predecessor launched at $599.99, and this phone brings a better processor, a bigger battery, a better USB port (with DisplayPort included), and a slightly brighter display.
