The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra Comes Packing The New Snapdragon 8s Gen 3
You might remember when the official Motorola account on Weibo teased the Motorola X50 Ultra and the assumption was that the model would be rebranded as the Edge 50 Pro in other regions. However, now we know the X50 Ultra was truly the Chinese variant of the Edge 50 Ultra, and we have learned almost everything about this mysterious third device thanks to a leak brought to us by Android Headlines.
What Will It Look Like?
First off, the phone is quite a looker and it certainly sets itself apart from the crowd with its unique design. The front of the device goes for rounded corners and a screen that curves gently on the left and right edges. There’s a single cutout for the selfie camera. The back is more interesting though. There’s a Motorola logo smack-dab in the center of the back, and the squarish camera bump gently ascends as a single piece with the rest of the panel.
The material on the back depends on the colorway you get, of which there are three: Peach Fuzz, Black, and Sisal. The latter is a metallic-looking mix between beige and silver, though I’d be surprised if any flagship comes rocking metal at this point, as much as I like it; it’s probably glass. The other two colors go for a vegan leather finish. Peach Fuzz is unsurprisingly a peach tone, but it is also the Pantone Color of 2024, so the little Pantone logo at the bottom should make a bit more sense now.
How Will It Perform?
The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra will be one of the very first smartphones to come rocking the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which is basically a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Jr. With that kind of chipset running the show, you can expect solid storage configurations to follow, though there’s no leaked info on those yet.
The camera performance is also known. There will be three lenses on the back, all with 50MP sensors. The main camera will have OIS, and the periscope lens will have a 75mm focal length (basically 5x optical zoom). I reckon the last shooter will be an ultrawide unit. There’s a triple LED flash and a laser autofocus housed on the camera bump, too.
Of course, it’s obvious that the phone will come running Android 14. But we also know it will have Motorola’s new Hello UI coming for the ride. Plus, if the initial X50 Ultra teaser is to be depended on, it will come with many AI features in two, considering it was marketed as an “AI Phone.”
How Much Will It Cost?
Well, it is hard to say for a fact, especially since the company didn’t make a direct predecessor to the phone last year. However, there was an Edge 30 Ultra in 2022, which cost $1,000. You can expect something around that range to be announced, and we won’t need to wait long to find out.
