Nanoleaf Unveils New Bias Lighting for Your Desk

At CES 2025, Smart lighting maker Nanoleaf announced its new new PC Screen Mirror Lightstrip. The accessory is a great way to add impressive background lights to your desk setup.

Each lightstrip is 2.5m (about 98.5 inches) in length, but you can trim it if you have a smaller monitor. Don’t worry if you have a dual-monitor setup, as Nanoleaf can connect and sync two lightstrips at once for dual monitor setups. Bias lighting can be challenging to bend around the back without corner brackets, so you’ll appreciate Nanoleaf’s zig-zag design which allows for easy bending of the lightstrip. If you’ve never used bias lighting, you should.

Philips has long proved that bias lighting has merits with its Ambilight TVs that come equipped with LEDs on the backside which dynamically change their color based on what’s on the screen, illuminating the wall behind and around the TV to great effect.

You can add bias lighting to any TV or monitor with specialized accessories. Nanoleaf’s PC Screen Mirror Lightstrip is not camera-based, and that’s good. While camera-based bias lighting works with any source, it can be inaccurate. The PC Screen Mirror Lightstrip doesn’t require a dedicated camera mounted at the top of the monitor. Instead, you just plug it into your PC and open Nanoleaf’s desktop app to connect it.

The app analyzes the frame buffer in real-time, sending instructions to the lightstrip to render multicolor gradients and effects that match whatever is displayed on the monitor at the moment. The company has designed PC Screen Mirror Lightstrip primarily with gamers in mind, but it will work great with other entertainment content, such as movies and music.

HTG has reviewed a bunch of Nanoleaf accessories, including its impressive Essentials Matter Outdoor String Lights featuring dynamic colors, Wi-Fi compatibility, and more. PC Screen Mirror Lightstrip will be released sometime in the second half of 2025, and Nanoleaf will announce pricing and further details in due time.
