If you have a Nest doorbell or other Nest smart cameras, a Nest Aware subscription is a must-have. It allows you to review and look over footage captured by your cameras, keep a history of events, and in general, keep tabs on what your cameras have seen. If you are subscribed to either Nest Aware’s standard tier or the Plus tier, your prices are about to go up quite significantly.
The Nest Aware standard tier, which was previously $6 a month or $60 a year, is now going up to $8 a month or $80 a year. The Nest Aware Plus tier, previously $12 a month or $120 a year, is now $15 a month or $150 a year. These are quite steep price increases — 33% in the case of the Nest Aware tier and 25% in the case of the Nest Aware Plus tier. And even though it’s just $2 or $3, it adds up quickly if you have other subscriptions, of which many are also increasing their prices. This is also not something you can just cancel, unless you want to experience a notable decrease in functionality from your Nest cameras.
The Nest Aware Plus tier gives you access to up to 60 days of event video history, plus 10 days of 24/7 video history. If the price increase for this tier is too much for you, you can downgrade to the regular Nest Aware tier, which gives you 30 days of event video history and no 24/7 video history. It’s annoying, but you don’t have much of a choice.
Luckily, you do have some time before this price increase goes into effect. When your plan renews on, or after, November 6th, 2023, Google will charge you the new price. Until then, you can still enjoy the older price. New subscribers, however, will need to pay the new price from now, so it’s technically already in effect as we write this — you just have a 2-month grace period if you’re a current subscriber.
If you wanted to subscribe to Nest Aware, you’ll have to gulp down the current prices. If you are currently subscribed, however, you have some time to decide whether you want to pay the new price or downgrade (or cancel) your subscription.
