We’re getting a lot closer to the vision of the future that was portrayed in fiction like The Jetsons. You can easily put batter for your banana bread inside the oven and magically get it to start baking an hour before you get back home. You can check what’s in your fridge from the grocery store. You can turn off lights without getting out of bed.
Smart speakers and displays play a big role in your smart home ecosystem, and even when they’re not necessarily controlling the rest of your house, you want them to feel comfortable. That includes being able to play music from your favorite streaming service. If that happens to be Amazon Music, you’re going to like this new feature.
Your Nest Smart Speakers and Displays Can Now Set Amazon Music as the Default Streaming Service
If you’ve had a Nest (essentially Google) smart speaker or display, you won’t be surprised to know that it allows you to set a default music streaming service for all your music-related requests. However, you might have noticed that before now, Amazon Music was never an option. However, popular platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, and, obviously, YouTube Music have always been available.
Whether that was a result of Amazon being a competitor in the smart speaker and smart display market isn’t certain. That doesn’t matter as much anymore, though. Google Assistant on your Nest smart home speaker or display now lets you use Amazon Music as your default streaming platform—perfect news for those who prefer the online shopping giant’s option more than others.
To access this new option, you’ll need to enter the settings for the Google Assistant app, and once in there, select “Music”. You’ll be presented with multiple options, one of which will now be Amazon Music. You’ll need to link the account by pressing the chain icon, and once you do, you’ll have to enter your credentials to sign into your Amazon Music account. Once that’s done, you’ll be able to tick Amazon Music as the default for music.
What Are Some Commands That You Can Use With Music on Google Assistant?
If you’ve never really used Google Assistant to play music from your Nest devices, then you might be unfamiliar with the voice commands that are supported. Worry not; I’ll give you a lowdown on some of the most important commands you can use. After saying, “Hey Google,” just follow up with any of the following:
- “Play my library” to play your liked songs
- “Play ” to play a specified playlist
- “Previous” to play the last song again
- “Play it again” to play the song you just listened to over again
- “Shuffle” to randomize the next songs to play
