New Apple Leak Reveals iPhone 13 Design Shock

Recent iPhone 13 leaks have shot down a lot of what we thought we knew about Apple’s next-generation iPhones. But now a new report reveals a genuine shock about one big iPhone 13 upgrade which Apple intends to keep.

In an exclusive new video, hugely popular YouTuber Filip Koroy (aka EverythingApplePro) has teamed up with prolific industry leaker Max Weinbach to reveal that MagSafe will be upgraded in the iPhone 13 range. This comes as a shock given Apple’s newly upgraded warning about potential for iPhone 12 models to interfere with medical devices

Breaking this down, Koroy explains that on iPhone 13 models the wireless charging coils in MagSafe will increase in size potentially “to compensate for the stronger MagSafe magnets which Max leaked earlier. It’ll be better for heat management and higher wattage, so we might get faster charging through wireless and it’s very possible, he speculates, that this could be used to initiate reverse wireless charging, a feature notably missing on Apple’s latest iPhones.”

All these features would be very welcome upgrades given iPhones fall short in all these areas compared to the competition. That said, both the Journal of the American Heart Association (JAHA) and the Heart Rhythm Journal (HRJ) issued warnings earlier this year bout MagSafe. JAHA concluded that the iPhone 12 range “has the potential to inhibit lifesaving therapy” while the HRJ used almost identical language in its report, saying iPhone 12 models “potentially inhibit lifesaving therapy in a patient”.

Less controversially, Max also doubles down on another earlier iPhone 13 leak with Koroy reporting “he confirms again that Portrait Mode video is happening and will be baked into the camera application.” If true, I suspect Portrait Video will be the next hot trend on Instagram and TikTok even though Max does note we can already see something similar with the new Portrait Mode video option added to FaceTime on iOS 15

Ultimately, it is clear Apple is fully committed to MagSafe and it looks likely that it will be the medical world which has to adapt rather than the other way around. iPhones are in over a billion packets, after all. Moreover, if you’re a fan of MagSafe (with the Lightning port’s days being numbered you have little choice) then these are exciting developments.

Moreover, despite the news that iPhone 13 Pro storage will be lower than expected, that the return of Touch ID slipped again and LiDAR will remain Pro-only for another year, there’s still a lot to reward upgraders. Leaked upgrades include a smaller notch, supersized new cameras with extreme image stabilization, battery improvements and an inevitably class-leading chipset in the shape of the hyper efficient A15

And if you wait, the first iPhone 14 leaks suggest you will be well rewarded for your patience. Ultimately, whatever you choose, it’s win/win.
