iPhone 14 Pro leaks claim the new phones will be extremely fast. In contrast, iPhone 14 models have been tipped to stagnate, with Apple reusing the iPhone 13 chipset. But now, things have taken a twist.
According to new information from respected leaker ShrimpApplePro, Apple has squeezed additional performance out of the iPhone 13’s A15 chipset, which it will bring exclusively to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max.

ShrimpApplePro states that Apple has redesigned the internals of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max and will equip them with a new Qualcomm X65 modem.
The former is typically done to improve heat build-up, which allows chips to run faster for longer. The latter is expected to be up to 30% faster than its predecessor, the X60, while adding global support for mmWave — 5G’s fastest band. The leaker ends by saying ‘etc’, indicating that Apple has made further improvements elsewhere.
How many? Because Apple has never used the same chipset across two generations of iPhone before, we have no data to go on. And while Apple has released alternative versions of A-Series chips in iPhones and iPads, the wildly different thermal constraints of smartphones and tablets make this an unhelpful reference point. But there is a better guide: the iPhone 14 Pro.

A detailed breakdown of leaked iPhone 14 Pro components recently revealed multiple likely performance metrics for its A16 chip: a 25-30% boost in graphics, a 50% increase in memory bandwidth (due to next-gen RAM) and a smaller 15% boost to the CPU.
I expect the last of these to stop major gains for the A15-based iPhone 14 in terms of CPU, especially with Apple determined to widen the gap between Pro and non-Pro models. That said, any speed jump will be a welcome surprise to iPhone 14 upgraders who had been warned to accept a virtually identical smartphone to the iPhone 13.
Combine this with recent good news on iPhone 14 pricing, and Apple’s most affordable iPhone 14 models may just punch above their weight.
