New iPhone 16e now available for pre-order, starts at $599

Apple’s new iPhone is officially available for pre-order. You can head to Apple’s website now to place your pre-order for the iPhone 16e, with the first orders slated to arrive on Friday, February 28. The device will also hit Apple retail stores on that day.

Here’s a brief recap of what to expect from the iPhone 16e.

iPhone 16e specs and features

The iPhone 16e joins the iPhone lineup with a 6.1-inch OLED screen, a notch, and Face ID for biometric authentication. There’s an Action button instead of a mute switch and USB-C instead of Lightning for charging and data transfer.

The device is powered by the A18 chip inside paired with 8GB of RAM. This combination of specs provides full support for Apple Intelligence, including features like Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, ChatGPT integration, and more. There are also new Apple Intelligence features on the way in future software updates.

Notably, the iPhone 16e features the C1 modem, the first cellular modem designed by Apple. Apple says that this is “the most power-efficient modem ever on an iPhone.” The C1 modem, paired with the A18 chip, means the iPhone 16e features the “best battery life ever on a 6.1-inch iPhone” with video playback of up to 26 hours.

The iPhone 16e boasts a single 48MP Fusion camera, complemented by an integrated 2x Telephoto option. By default, it captures high-resolution 24MP photos, but you can opt for 48MP images. The integrated Telephoto feature enables you to zoom in while preserving the quality of the image, eliminating the need for a separate physical camera. Additionally, the iPhone 16e supports HDR, Portrait mode, and Night mode, enhancing your photography experience.

On the front of the iPhone 16e, there’s a 12MP selfie camera with autofocus support.

The iPhone 16e has a few notable limitations. The device lacks support for MagSafe, but it does feature standard Qi wireless charging. The iPhone 16e doesn’t have an Ultra Wideband chip, which means it doesn’t work with the Precision Finding feature of AirTags, AirPods, and Find My. It could also impact compatibility with future Home app accessories, digital car keys, and more.

The iPhone 16e starts at $599 for 128GB of storage. That’s a notable price increase from the iPhone SE, which was previously Apple’s most affordable iPhone and started at $429 for 64GB of storage and $479 for 128GB of storage.

Full pricing details for the iPhone 16e, which is available in black and white color options:

  • 128GB: $599
  • 256GB: $699
  • 512GB: $899

With the launch of the iPhone 16e, Apple has discontinued the iPhone SE and the iPhone 14 Plus. The iPhone 14 has been removed from Apple’s website, but will continue to be available through its retail channel partners.
