New Thread sensor, Find My wallet, & hands-on with Eve Play

HomeKit Insider

On this week’s episode of the HomeKit Insider podcast, your hosts goes through the latest smart home news before going hands-on with the new Eve Play.

This week, Faith O’Hara joins the podcast as co-host to talk through the latest news in the smart home space, starting with the launch of the Onvis SMS2. The Onvis SMS2 is its second-generation motion sensor that looks identical to the last.

What changed, is that the new model now works over Thread rather than Bluetooth. It also features humidity and temperature sensors alongside motion and a new light sensor to run different automations based on the room’s brightness.

Also hitting the market is a new Find My-enabled wallet. The Journey LOC8 wallet connects to your iPhone via MagSafe, acts as a stand, and can hold up to three cards.

It’s most similar to the ESR Geo Wallet though it lacks the finger loop for a grip. Currently, the wallet is sold out but should be available soon.

Outside of hardware releases, we saw two new software upgrades. The Eve MotionBlinds were updated to support Matter, and Amazon finally updated its Alexa app on iOS.

After the news, we went hands-on with the new Eve Play. This small box allows you to wirelessly cast audio to your favorite bookshelf speakers via Apple AirPlay.
