When you’ve got a modern smartphone such as the Xiaomi 11T Pro with 120W wired charging, picking up the wrong USB-C cable can slow the process of topping up the battery. This could be a thing of the past though thanks to the new USB-C logos that have been announced by the USB-IF organization which will make choosing the right cable so much easier.

Picking the right cable for the right phone isn’t the easiest thing to do but the new logos will signify whether the USB-C cable is capable of 60W or 240W output. Naturally, the logos will only be present on certified USB-C cables which means that the ones you already have will remain an enigma until you plug them in.

“With the new higher power capabilities enabled by the USB PD 3.1 Specification, which unlocks up to 240W over a USB Type-C cable and connector, USB-IF saw an opportunity to further strengthen and simplify its Certified Logo Program for the end-user,” said Jeff Ravencraft, USB-IF President and COO. “With our updated logos, consumers can easily identify the USB4 performance and USB Power Delivery capabilities of Certified USB-C Cables, which support an ever-expanding ecosystem of consumer electronics from laptops and smartphones to displays and chargers.”

Having recently announced that USB-C would now support outputting up to 240W in order to charge larger devices such as PC notebooks, the USB-IF’s new logos will make it much easier to spot if the cable you’ve just reached for is capable of 60W or 240W.
