Newegg Introduces AI-Generated Review Summaries for Tech Products

Newegg has launched a new feature that utilizes artificial intelligence (AI) to provide review summaries for technology products, making it easier for users to navigate through user feedback. The AI technology used is based on OpenAI’s ChatGPT and is accessible in the “Reviews” section of a product’s page on Newegg’s desktop site.

The AI-generated review summaries not only provide a brief summary of what customers are saying about a particular product but also highlight the pros and cons based on user reviews. Users can click on these pros and cons to filter reviews by specific keywords and understand the sources of information used by the AI.

For example, when examining the Intel Core i9-13900K, the AI-generated review summary highlighted pros such as “fast performance,” “good for overclocking,” and “efficient performance.” It also mentioned a con that the CPU “runs hot.” The summary further elaborated that the CPU is considered an excellent upgrade for gaming and productivity tasks but may require a robust cooling solution due to its tendency to run hot and consume a lot of power.

Newegg currently offers this feature exclusively on its desktop site and requires products to have a minimum number of reviews for AI-generated summaries to be available. However, the exact minimum number of reviews is not specified by Newegg.

This development by Newegg follows the growing trend of integrating AI technology in e-commerce platforms. Online retail giant Amazon is reportedly testing AI-powered review summaries, while Microsoft has already implemented AI-generated reviews and buying guides in their store and search engine, respectively.
