‘Skull of Satoshi’ Creator Walks Back Claims About Bitcoin’s Environmental Impact
Benjamin Von Wong, the Canadian artist who unveiled his “Skull of Satoshi” installation, said the work was never meant to be anti-Bitcoin. He believed that Bitcoin mining was a simple black-and-white issue, but has since realized that few things in the world are black and white. Greenpeace’s campaign, “Change the Code, Not the Climate”, seeks to move Bitcoin to a more environmentally friendly proof-of-stake (Pos) mechanism, but Bitcoin’s core developer and early adopter group are ideologically committed to the principles of sound money and unlikely to switch to a PoS system.
