Nintendo is allowing any Switch Online member to pre-order a Nintendo Switch 2 console in the UK, ahead of the June 5 release date.
Previously the manufacturer has been inviting its most loyal and active users to jump to the front of the queue for the long-awaited sequel console, after pre-orders opened last month.
Supplies remain in-and-out of stock, but providing you have an active membership you’ll be able to buy a Switch 2 from the My Nintendo store on UK soil (via Eurogamer). That also includes people who haven’t previously had a membership but have bought one to gain access to the new console.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the standalone Switch 2 console and the Mario Kart World bundle are both out of stock after being available earlier today. It’s possible that Switch Online members have hopped on to drain the supplies since this morning’s news.
Given the Switch 2 is still really hard to find at UK retailers, keeping tabs on the official Nintendo store might be the best bet. Hopefully the window to the best Switch 2 games opens more fully soon.
Opinion
Nintendo promised it had ways to keep the supply line ticking over and combat the scalper bots, but thus far has found it difficult to keep the console readily available.
Hopefully this subsides after the initial launch rush wears off and we avoid a repeat of the shortages that made the OG Switch and Nintendo Wii consoles rarer than rocking horse poop at times.
