Today as part of its latest Nintendo Direct, the gaming giant announced the launch of a brand new iPhone and Android app: Nintendo Today! It’s available now on the App Store as a new way to follow updates from Nintendo every single day. Here are the details.
Nintendo Today! is a daily update app filled with custom-tailored content
Nintendo Today! aims to be a daily destination for Nintendo content. Upon opening the app, you’re asked to choose your favorite gaming series so the app can tailor its content feed to your liking.
After setup, the main app interface looks and feels like a social-style content feed, very similar to apps like YouTube.
You scroll through the app to find content you want to engage with, and tap whatever catches your eye.
Nintendo Today! content includes videos, game tips, image galleries, quizzes, and other random info pages. Per the app’s release notes:
Get updates on all things Nintendo! Whether it’s news about the Nintendo Switch™ 2 system and video games, info about your favorite characters, or videos and comic strips—you’ll get personalized fun every day.
As that last line states, Nintendo promises there will be new content daily.
The app does a great job letting you personalize it to your liking. Beyond choosing which content you’re interested, you can also customize theming to one of these game series:
- Super Mario
- The Legend of Zelda
- Animal Crossing
- Splatoon
- Pikmin
A dedicated calendar tab lets you keep track of relevant Nintendo dates, such as the next Nintendo Direct presentation or game release.
You can even set up an iOS widget to keep track of those important upcoming dates.
9to5Mac’s Take
Nintendo Today! is really fascinating to me. The app takes a social feed-style format and applies it to a real niche: fans not just of gaming, but of Nintendo specifically. The company does have a loyal fan base, so I’m curious to see what the response is like.
If Nintendo can deliver useful new content every day, perhaps it can pry iPhone users’ attention away—at least briefly each day—from the likes of TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
What do you think of the Nintendo Today! app? Let us know in the comments.
