‘Nintendo Today!’ app now available on iOS

Nintendo’s newest iPhone app is designed to help keep Mario, Animal Crossing, and Legend of Zelda fans in the loop with daily updates, customizable calendars and widgets, and more.

Nintendo has launched a brand new app, dubbed “Nintendo Today!”, designed to act as a hub for all your favorite Nintendo-based content. Unsurprisingly, the app’s launch arrived the same day that Nintendo Direct March 2025 kicked off.

“Nintendo Today!” includes a few notable features. The first is an animated calendar that displays the date and any relevant Nintendo news of the day. You can choose which of your favorite Nintendo franchises your calendar displays, too.

You can also pick which IP you’re interested in receiving updates for, from titles like Animal Crossing, Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and more.

You can even add a widget to your home screen that displays art from your favorite Nintendo game series.

If you’ve already got a Nintendo account, and we’re assuming that anyone looking to download the app will, you can download it for free from the App Store. Apple users will need to use an iPhone with iOS 16.0 or later, but it’s available on the Google Play store for Android users as well.

This is also where AppleInsider would be remiss if we didn’t point out that Nintendo has a storied history of abandoning apps.

It introduced Miitomo in 2016, only to discontinue it in 2018. Dr. Mario World shared a similar fate; it was introduced in July 2019 and later killed off barely three years after its introduction.

Somehow, though, Super Mario Run and Mario Kart Tour, both of which had a notably rough launch, are still available.

In 2023, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the company would not be developing any future Super Mario titles for mobile platforms. While he appreciated that it allowed for more people to experience the IP, he did not believe that Mario’s future would be on a smartphone.

In 2024, the company announced that they would be ending the online portion of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, but said they’d relaunch with an offline-only mode.
