Nothing could launch something mobile in 2022

Fresh from nabbing a $50 million investment from Qualcomm, Nothing’s Carl Pei has confirmed on Twitter that the brand will be launching ‘Something’. While Pei was coy about revealing any further info, it’s being reported that Nothing is preparing to launch a smartphone during 2022, as well as a power bank.

According to 91Mobiles, Nothing has been quietly working on a smartphone which it plans to launch in early 2022. No official name for the device has been given out although seeing as Nothings earbuds are called Ear (1) it’s entirely possible and even probable that the phone will be called Phone (1).

Nothing may have been working quietly but it’s not really a surprise that it plans to launch a smartphone. Having bought what was left of Essential it has always been thought that it was only a matter of time before a smartphone would be unveiled by Nothing. After all, it’s helmed by the OnePlus founder, Carl Pei.

Could it be a revival of what was going to be the Essential Phone 2? Who knows, but with Nothing’s minimalistic aesthetic we could see a smartphone that looks a little different from what is currently on the market.

He’s been an Android fan ever since owning an HTC Hero, with the Dell Streak being his first phablet. He currently carries a OnePlus Nord 2 5G in his pockets, a Galaxy Tab S6 in his backpack, and thinks nothing of lugging a 17-inch laptop around the world. When not immersed in the world of Android and gadgets, he’s an avid sports fan, and like all South Africans, he loves a good Braai (BBQ).
