Nothing is gearing up for a major smartphone release to start out next month, and the devices in question make up the Nothing Phone 3a series—the Phone 3a and the Phone 3a Pro. The “a” designates what would typically be Nothing’s more budget-focused devices, but it looks like they’ll be firmly in the mid-range this year.
Nothing likes to tease us as its launches get closer and closer—we’re not complaining, that’s for sure. The company has started drumming up hype for the upcoming devices, the latest attempt of which has given us a bunch of insight into what the cameras are going to be like. Let’s just say the Nothing Phone 3a Pro is going to look unusual.
The Nothing Phone 3a and 3a Pro Will Adopt Different Camera Designs
Nothing has merely been teasing the designs for its upcoming smartphones, the Nothing Phone 3a and Nothing Phone 3a Pro. However, through leaks and the company’s own teasers, we have a vague idea of what we can expect in terms of design, and both smartphones are going to look quite different from one another.
For one, it seems like the regular Nothing Phone 3a is going to have a triple-camera setup that is horizontally aligned—similar to what the Nothing Phone 2a had, but with an extra lens thrown in for good effect. It’s going to be a very unique-looking device, but placed beside the Nothing Phone 3a Pro, it’ll be relatively tame.
The Nothing Phone 3a Pro is going to have a very… strange camera module. Thankfully, we don’t need to speculate too much on this one, as the company posted the camera module on its official X account. It’ll be contained within what seems to be a circular area, but the arrangement of the actual lenses will be in a sort of L-shape. I’d try to explain it better than that, but the picture above will do much better than I can.
The Nothing Phone 3a Pro Will Introduce the First Telephoto Camera in Nothing’s Portfolio
Nothing’s devices typically stick to dual-camera setups—a trusty main camera along with an ultrawide. It’s a very uncomplicated setup and it has worked for them quite nicely over the years. However, it looks like this is the first year where the OEM refuses to compromise. Both devices are going to come with triple-camera setups, which means that you’ll get the ultrawide as usual but with a telephoto expected, too.
In the case of the Nothing Phone 3a, there’s the minor possibility that its third camera could be a dedicated macro or depth sensor, though that’s extremely unlikely. However, my point is simply that nothing has been confirmed there. However, for the Nothing Phone 3a Pro, a tweet from Nothing, as well as the image of the device’s camera module, cements that it will come with a periscope telephoto camera.
The Nothing Phone 3a Pro is expected to have an upgraded 50MP main camera with OIS, a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with OIS (likely with 3x optical zoom), and an 8MP ultrawide. A 50MP front camera will be on the front side. That’s a good configuration for an “a” phone, and looking at the macro camera samples above (likely taken with the telephoto), it looks really good.
