Nothing can already be considered as something of a budget smartphone OEM. Its devices aren’t in the absolute lowest pricing tier, but they offer a lot of what the bigger guys do for a lot cheaper. That, along with a large focus on design and software is the company’s value proposition.
In March, the company released a proper budget device: the Nothing Phone 2a. In April, it received an exclusive colorway in India. May brought the Phone 2a Special Edition. In July, it announced the Nothing Phone 2a Plus. Nothing doesn’t want you to forget about them, since now, it’s the Phone 2a Plus Community Edition.
Nothing’s Community Edition Is Built On The Phone 2a Plus; Glows In The Dark
Nothing has the Phone 1 and the Phone 2, and neither of those was pushed close to as hard as the company has been pushing its Phone 2a. The device has been available for just over half a year and yet we’ve seen what I’d say is a tad too many variants of it. Unfortunately, my opinion doesn’t matter, and Nothing is of the opinion that we can never have too many.
Built on the body of the Nothing Phone 2a Plus is the Community Edition model. Spec-wise, there’s nothing different, as you might expect. However, the major appeal of this smartphone is its aesthetic. A contest open to Nothing’s user community eventually resulted in the winning “Phosphorescence” design. In the daytime, the device is white with a very light green undertone for the frame, camera module, and ribbon design.
However, as the name might have given away, take the device into a dark room and suddenly it glows a stronger green in the dark. It’s a gimmick, but in a way, aren’t all limited-edition colorways? At least this one will be easier to find in a pitch-black room. You’ll also get the perk of custom wallpapers and a different box design (which also has glow-in-the-dark elements).
The Nothing Phone 2a Plus Community Edition Is Very Limited Edition
If you saw this phone and decided that you absolutely must get your hands on it (I’m not judging), you might have an extremely hard time making that work. The Nothing Phone 2a Plus Community Edition is going to have a very limited release, with only 1,000 units available. In other words, it’s going to be incredibly difficult to get this before the scalpers put it up for 5x the price.
The device is going to launch in Europe for the same price of £399. However, you’re going to need to wait until November 12th for orders to open, so add that to your calendar if you’re determined to get one.
Interestingly, Japan will also be getting a Community Edition device, but instead, based on the Nothing Phone 2a, not the Plus model. What do you think about the onslaught of Nothing Phone 2a variants? Yay or nay? Let us know in the comments below.
