Nubia’s Z60 Ultra and Pro Pack Flagship SoCs And AI Cameras

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Nubia has just unveiled two new flagships; the Z60 Ultra Leading Version and the Z60S Pro. Both models come with advanced AI features. The Z60 Ultra Leading Version packs an overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, a 6,000mAh battery with ‘Zero’ power consumption technology, and a stunning 6.8-inch AMOLED display.

On the more affordable side, the Z60S Pro still offers a powerful camera experience but with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, a 5,100mAh battery, and a high-resolution AMOLED display. Both phones are available for pre-order now and will go on sale globally starting August 12.

While everyone is waiting for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, Nubia has taken a different approach and introduced the Z60 Ultra Leading Version with an improved version of the current Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The key difference in the processor is that it’s from Qualcomm’s special edition. It provides better performance with a faster CPU and GPU compared to the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip.

The Cortex-X4 prime CPU core is clocked at 3.4GHz, up from the standard 3.3GHz, and the Adreno 750 GPU operates at a boosted frequency of 1GHz. Nubia claims that the new phone’s dedicated AI engine provides up to 73 Tera Operations per Second (TOPS) of computing power. It’s capable of running large language models with up to 10 billion parameters directly on the device.

It’s impressive, considering that not many mobile devices can handle 100% on-device AI processing currently. They either rely on the cloud or use a hybrid model with partial reliance. The phone’s 6,000mAh battery, combined with AI ‘Zero’ power consumption 2.0 technology and 80W fast charging, gives it a long battery life even during heavy use.

Other than the CPU, GPU, and AI features, the Nubia Z60 Ultra Leading Version is really just a glorified model of the previous Z60 Ultra. It retains the same 6.8-inch AMOLED display, under-display selfie camera, fingerprint scanner, IP68 protection, and a Custom Sliding Shortcut design.

On its rear side are three cameras, all using Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and NeoVision AI Photography System 2.0. The main lens is a 50MP shooter, with a 64MP zoom camera (3.3x optical zoom), and a 50MP ultrawide lens following it. The phone can record 8K videos and offers AI Flash Capture and AI Telephoto support for better performance.

Meanwhile, the Nubia Z60S Pro is a high-end smartphone, but cheaper than the Z60 Ultra Leading Version. It uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which is not as fast at AI processing as the Gen 3. But it’s still capable of decent performance. You’ll get up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, along with a 5,100mAh battery. The display delivers high-quality with 1.5K AMOLED and durable glass. Out of the box, it runs on Android 14.

Both phones come in Black, Aqua, and White. Pricing for the Z60S Pro starts at $569, while the Z60 Ultra Leading Version starts at $649. Pre-orders are open globally from July 23, with general sales starting on August 12. Early bird offers are available for pre-orders.
