TRUMBULL — A New York man stole more than $8,000 worth of Apple products that were delivered to local homes on Wednesday, police said.
Jesus Felix, 23, of the Bronx, was charged with third-degree larceny, Trumbull Police Lt. Brian Weir said Thursday. Felix was held on $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Bridgeport on Jan. 13.
Weir said Trumbull police were notified that a suspect, later identified as Felix, was stealing recently delivered packages from outside homes near the intersection of Inwood Road and Springwood Drive around noon Wednesday. Responding officers found Felix inside a white Mercedes-Benz linked to the alleged thefts parked on the shoulder of Bassick Road, Weir said.
When questioned, Felix told officers he was picking up a cellphone his girlfriend, a resident of the Dominican Republic, accidentally had delivered to the wrong address, according to Weir. He showed officers a text message that listed several different delivery addresses, Weir said.
Investigators determined the recipient names on two packages that had been delivered did not match the names of the residents of those homes, according to Weir. Both of the packages contained iPhones, Weir said.
Other Apple devices, including three iPhone Pro Maxes and three Apple Watch Ultras still in their original packaging, were also recovered from the Mercedes-Benz, according to Weir. Felix arefused to tell officers the source of the items, Weir said.
The recovered products were valued at a total of more than $8,000, Weir said.
