Oak Hills rallies to beat Apple Valley – Press Enterprise


    Buddha Peleti returned a fumble for a touchdown during the third quarter to give Oak Hills its first lead, and the Bulldogs held on for a 21-14 victory over Apple Valley in a Mojave River League game Friday night.

    Oak Hills (8-1, 4-0) clinched at least a share of the league title with the victory.

    Apple Valley (6-3, 3-1 in league) grabbed a 14-0 lead in the first quarter behind a pair of touchdown runs by quarterback Jayden Denegal.

    Oak Hills cut the deficit in half when Andrew Garcia threw a touchdown pass to Shane Young in the second quarter. The Bulldogs drew even in the third quarter on a touchdown run by Prince Thomas.

    Oak Hills’ defense did the rest, shutting out Apple Valley for the final 38 minutes of the game.

    CHINO HILLS OUTLASTS DAMIEN

    Bobby Johnson threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Brooks and Jake Laurent kicked the deciding extra point with 2:28 remaining in the game as Chino Hills edged Damien 37-36 in a Baseline League game Thursday night.

    Chino Hills (5-5, 2-2 in league) had a 30-7 lead by halftime. Hunter Corbin rushed for a pair of touchdowns, and Johnson added another score on the ground. Keitrick Charles also returned a fumble for a touchdown.

    Damien (3-6, 0-3) made a furious comeback in the second half, scoring 29 consecutive points. Dylan Gutierrez scored on an 11-yard run to help put the Spartans ahead 36-30 with approximately four minutes on the clock.

    HIGHLIGHTS FROM OTHER GAMES

    Citrus Valley 56, Redlands 0: Brockton Lium threw two touchdown passes and rushed for two more as the Blackhawks (7-2, 3-1) won a Citrus Valley League game. Sergio Cervantes rushed for a touchdown, caught a touchdown pass and returned a punt for a touhcdown. Jeremiah Claiborne rushed for 118 yards.

    Norte Vista 28, Hillcrest 0: Eddie Allain rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns as the Braves (8-0, 4-0) clinched at least a share of the River Valley League title. Norte Vista also registered its fifth shutout of the season.

    Jurupa Hulls 41, Kaiser 7: Marquis Roby threw for 270 yards and four touchdowns as the Spartans (7-2, 2-0) clinched at least a share of the Sunkist League title.

    Temescal Canyon 23, Orange Vista 20: Ismael Figueroa kicked three field goals, including one in the final seconds to left the Titans (7-2) to a nonleague victory. Koa Apana threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns.

    Carter 26, San Gorgonio 0: Larry Chandler rushed for three touchdowns as the Lions (1-6, 1-1) won a Sunkist League game.

    Elsinore 76, Notre Dame 23: Donovan Harvey rushed for 264 yards and four touchdowns and also returned a kickoff for a touchdown as the Tigers (6-3, 2-1) won an Ivy League game. Elsinore finished with 590 yards on the ground. Oscar Flores rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

    Temecula Valley 10, Murrieta Mesa 7: Jake Sinz returned a fumble 75 yards in the fourth quarter to help the Golden Bears (6-3, 1-3) win a Southwestern League game.

    Silverado 28, Adelanto 20: Ian Wilson threw for 208 yards and three touchdowns as the Hawks (4-5, 3-0) clinched at least a share of the Desert Sky League title.

    Chaparral 39, Great Oak 15: Dash Beierly threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as the Pumas (6-3, 3-1) won a Southwestern League game.

    Chaffey 42, Don Lugo 6: LeeShawn Griffin rushed for 98 yards and three touchdowns as the Tigers (2-7, 1-1) won a San Antonio League game. Isaiah Taylor scored two touchdowns for Chaffey.

    North 54, Valley View 7: Venasio Mikaele rushed for 172 yards and three touchdowns and also threw an 88-yard touchdown pass as the Huskies (9-0, 3-0) clinch the Sunbelt League title outright.

    Diamond Bar 34, Nogales 20: Mikey Gorbea II rushed for 264 yards and four touchdowns as the Brahmas (5-4, 2-0) won a Hacienda League game.

    Lakeside 49, Tahquitz 20: Desean Norwood rushed for 222 yards and two touchdown as the Lancers (6-3) won a nonleague game.

    Summit 56, Colton 0: De’Marri Owens rushed for three touchdowns as the SkyHawks (7-2, 2-0) won a San Andreas League game.

    Moreno Valley 42, Canyon Springs 13: Larry McDonald rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns and also caught four passes for 145 yards and a touchdown as the Vikings (3-2, 1-2) won an Inland Valley League game.
