Odell Beckham Jr. taking salary in Bitcoin, giving away $1M

Odell Beckham Jr. announced this week that he will be taking his new salary with the Los Angeles Rams in Bitcoin.

The NFL star made the announcement in a video shared to Twitter on Monday.

“It’s a NEW ERA & to kick that off I’m hyped to announce that I’m taking my new salary in bitcoin,” Beckham wrote in the caption.

The move, which will be carried out in partnership with Square Inc.’s Cash App, will also allow Beckham to give away $1 million in Bitcoin to his fans, he noted in the tweet.

Earlier this month, the wide receiver signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Rams after playing 29 games with the Cleveland Browns. His new contract is reportedly worth up to $4.25 million, USA Today reported.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers announced in October that he would be receiving part of his salary in Bitcoin in a similar Cash App partnership.

“I believe in Bitcoin & the future is bright,” Rodgers said of the partnership at the time.
