One UI 6.1 Update Will Add AI Features To Galaxy S23 In March


We’ve reviewed Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra, and thanks in no small part to its AI capabilities, it continues the tradition of being top of the hill in the Android smartphone segment. A delicious mix of hardware and (Galaxy) AI features, such as the Interpreter app and the ability to remaster your photos, give the S24 series an added advantage compared to other flagship rivals. But what about its predecessor, the Galaxy S23 series?

Rest assured, Samsung plans to share the AI love with the Galaxy S23 series and other 2023 flagship devices via the One UI 6.1 update, which will officially begin rolling out towards the end of March.

Samsung says that the One UI 6.1 update will add a bunch of Galaxy AI features to last year’s phones, including the following:

  • Chat Assist: Users can adjust the tone of the message and also translate the content into 13 different languages
  • Live Translate: Benefit from real-time voice and text translations for phone calls
  • Interpreter: Engage in conversations with the locals with real-time translations
  • Circle to Search: Receive relevant search results after circling an object on your phone’s display
  • Note Assist: Create formats, generate summaries, and translate notes
  • Browsing Assist: Generates comprehensive summaries of news articles
  • Transcript Assist: Easily transcribe meeting records and generate summaries and translations
  • Generative Edit: Gives the user the ability to reposition and resize objects in a picture
  • Edit Suggestion: As the name implies, Galaxy AI will suggest edits that will polish the image further
  • Instant Slow-Mo: Generate additional frames for slow-motion videos
  • AI-Wallpapers: Customize your Galaxy device by getting AI to generate unique wallpapers

It’s a pretty short list, mainly consisting of the big hitters from 2023, which run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. AI demands more effort from the chipset, especially when it’s based on the device and not relying on the cloud to do the grunt work. Still, the list features the devices you might expect to be capable of providing AI features.

The One UI 6.1 update will roll out to the following devices towards the end of March.

  • Galaxy S23 FE
  • Galaxy Z Fold 5
  • Galaxy Z Flip 5
  • Galaxy Tab S9 Series
