Late last year, I had no issue with Samsung’s delays with Android 15. Every other kid in the playground had their version of Android 15 running, but Samsung had forsaken me and all the other supporters of the South Korean OEM, even up until now (unless you have a Galaxy S25 or a Galaxy F06). But hey, a bug-free build matters the most.
Unfortunately, that delay looks set to see February to its end, which would definitely make it a valid point of annoyance for those with older Samsung phones patiently awaiting the update. It also seems that the extent of Samsung’s tardiness could lead to the company skipping the mid-year One UI 7.1 update entirely. That’s not good.
One UI 7.1 Might Not Be a Thing This Year, with Samsung’s Major Software Delays
Whether you think it’s a big deal or not, there’s one thing we can all agree on: Samsung is very late with its Android-15-based One UI 7 update for its older smartphones. Users with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the phone that is arguably second-in-command in the hierarchy of prestige, have gotten the opportunity to enjoy three betas for the upcoming OS, but the stable release is still not over the horizon yet (see what I did there?)
February is likely going to end before Samsung releases the stable version of One UI 7 to any of its older smartphones, as more betas are still in the pipeline. I can only hope that the stable release won’t exceed Q1, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did, and in that case, a report from SamMobile holds a lot of water.
According to an exclusive report from the news outlet, Samsung might be planning to skip the One UI 7.1 update entirely. Traditionally, that update arrives on the scene in the middle of the year, launching alongside Samsung’s foldables. The OEM’s older devices typically get that update to take care of them through the second half of the year.
As the possibility of the stable release of One UI 7 launching ever so closer to Samsung’s Summer Unpacked event increases, so does the possibility that the company will entirely skip its mid-year One UI 7.1. That holds even more water when you realize that Android 16 is expected to launch in H1 this year—much earlier than usual. That’d likely make it more sensible for Samsung to work on getting that OS ready when it’s time.
Samsung Could Save the One UI 7 Stable Release for the Galaxy S25 Edge’s Launch
There’s word that Samsung might be saving its One UI 7 stable release to come alongside the launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge. Timing-wise, that would work nicely for the company, as its new entry to its S lineup is expected to launch sometime in April. That just gives you even more reason to stop waiting for that update to arrive.
The Samsung Galaxy A56 Is Coming Next Month; Should Have One UI 7 Out of the Box
Samsung smartphones released after this point are lucky since they don’t need to go through all the trials and tribulations that the older ones do as they anticipate the update. Samsung launched the Galaxy F06, a budget device, in India, and it comes with One UI 7 out of the box.
The Samsung Galaxy A56, the upcoming head honcho in the A-series, is expected next month, though there’s no exact date for it. However, there’s no reason not to expect One UI 7 straight out of the box. We’ll be sure to cover it when its time comes though.
