OnePlus TV listing suggests screen sizes, markets

As we close in on one year since we reported on a move by OnePlus to expand their hardware offerings with a jump into the television market, we may have just received some hints about what OnePlus has in mind. A new list has appeared on the Bluetooth SIG web site that may reveal some of the sizes of the TV devices OnePlus has in the works and what countries they plan to sell them in.

Before digging into some of the details of the list and what they might mean, note that the devices from OnePlus are described as a “unique Android TV.” The fact that OnePlus is building TVs that are based on Android TV for an operating system should not be a surprise. How they plan to make them “unique” remains to be seen, although the company has done a pretty good of setting their phones apart from the rest of the Android based smartphone market.

The listing also indicates the OnePlus televisions are LED TV units and not LCD units. Although the tech used in the two is very similar, LED is probably considered to be a slightly better by most buyers indicating OnePlus plans to jump in somewhere higher than the base level of the market.

The list of model numbers that was provided to the Bluetooth SIG covered close to 40 different model variants. If we can infer meaning from the model numbers, it appears sizes will range from 43-inch units up to 75-inch units. Likewise, potential country codes embedded in the model numbers help us understand which countries will have access to specific versions. For example, it looks like the 43-inch model – 43Q2IN – will only be available in India. Likewise, the large 75-inch variant – 75Q2CN – will not be available outside of China. Other potential model sizes include 55-inch units and 65-inch units, the latter being the largest US market option.

OnePlus managed to build a successful smartphone business even against the competition of long-time incumbents. Do you think they can do the same thing in the television market?
