Do you remember the earliest days of OnePlus? I do, back when it was running that horrible invite system for people to get their hands on its very first smartphone—the OnePlus One. Genuinely, I never imagined that the company would one day go toe-to-toe with the best of them and expand into other smartphone accessories.
Next year will bring the third-generation OnePlus smartwatch, the OnePlus Watch 3. However, we know now that we’re going to be getting something new, in the form of a Pro model for the first time ever. And we don’t need to speculate about potential features for the series, as an APK teardown has answered a lot of those questions. Let’s talk about it.
The OnePlus Watch 3 Pro Is A Thing, And We’re Going To See It Next Year
I wouldn’t have told anyone—beyond loyal OnePlus customers—to buy the OnePlus Watch, and that was simply because it ran on a proprietary operating system. With this year’s OnePlus Watch 2 though, the story was very different, as the company made the smart choice of moving over to Wear OS. It didn’t hurt that the rest of the package was pretty good too. Needless to say, that got our eyes watching the door for its successor.
Well, the rumors and leaks regarding the OnePlus Watch 3 have already started pouring out, and while we don’t expect it to launch with the OnePlus 13 series in about a week, it should arrive relatively early next year. Quite excitingly though, we now know that the OnePlus Watch 3 is going to be joined by the OnePlus Watch 3 Pro for the first time.
This comes from the folks at Android Authority digging into the code of the latest OHealth app, and spotting mentions of the upcoming device. However, when it comes to anything else beyond its existence, there’s not much known. The regular OnePlus Watch 3 will have a rotating crown, ECG capabilities, and a bigger battery, so we should be able to expect those to make their way to the Pro model at the very least.
Here Are Some Of The Software Features Coming To The OnePlus Watch 3 Series
Again, thanks to Android Authority, we also have a very good idea of some of the software features that the OnePlus Watch 3 series is going to have. Note that some of the features could potentially be exclusive to the Pro model, but for now, I’m going to assume that the entire series will support them.
As mentioned earlier, ECG measurement and analysis will be present. It’ll be able to detect atrial fibrillation, sinus rhythm, premature ventricular complexes (PVC), premature atrial complexes (PAC), and a lot more. For the average person, these might not be too important, but for those living with heart conditions, it could potentially be a lifesaver.
It is also expected to be able to measure your wrist temperature, which is cool (pun intended). It’ll first measure your baseline over five days, to figure out what is normal for you. A 60-second checkup feature was also spotted, which will assess your heart health, blood vessel elasticity, and sleep snoring, using several metrics that it has gathered over time.
