The foldable market has come a shockingly long way from where it started. From the rough days of the I-want-to-be-first-to-market Royole Flexpai to the magic that we see now—it’s quite an evolution for the newest smartphone form factor.
The Oppo Find N5 is official and is the most fitting example of how far things have come. The device manages to pack flagship specs into a body that’s record-thin. Oppo is showing what is possible with foldable technology, and it’s time to take a dive into what could potentially make this the folding phone of the year.
The Evolution Is Evident: The 8.93mm-Thin Oppo Find N5 Is Official
If you want to understand exactly why the Oppo Find N5 is the prime specimen for the foldable segment, you will soon enough. With a body that’s thinner than any other flagship that’s come before it and shockingly capable specs, the Find N5 is both beauty and brains.
The Design
At first glance, the Oppo Find N5 looks like every other foldable you’ve seen. A cover display on the front, a bigger display on the inside, and a camera module on the back. However, when talking about its design, you’d be amiss if you didn’t take a look at its side profile, where arguably its biggest talking point is most evident.
The Oppo Find N5 is the thinnest foldable in the universe. At 229g and just 8.93mm thin when closed (and 4.21mm when open), it gets impressively close to the thickness of non-foldables like the Galaxy S24 Ultra (8.6mm) and the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL (8.5mm). And for a chunkier device like the gaming-focused RedMagic 10 Pro, it’s perfectly matched. For a device that’s basically two in one, I hope you understand how impressive this is.
Despite its elegant build, the device is the first foldable to have an IPX9 rating. That’s not the only way that it is durable. Oppo has improved the ruggedness for a 30% stronger frame and 20% more drop-resistant glass. The “Titanium Flexion Hinge” is also smaller than last year, yet 36% more rigid. There were certainly no corners cut in terms of build quality. The Oppo Find N5 is available in Cosmic Black and Misty White colorways.
The Screens
You can’t talk about foldable phones without talking about the sole reason why it is what it is. That’s the inner folding display. In the case of the Oppo Find N5, that screen measures 8.12 inches. What that means is that not only is it the thinnest foldable, but it also has the biggest foldable display of any of them. Plus, that crease is almost invisible—enough to be awarded the first-ever TÜV Rheinland’s Minimized Crease Certification.
You won’t always want to bother with that bigger square display, though. In cases like that, the 6.62-inch cover display will be more than sufficient for your needs.
And in terms of the actual viewing experience, both displays are high quality. You get 120Hz refresh, 2,000+ nits of peak brightness for HDR content, and 2,160Hz to mitigate eye fatigue at dimmer brightnesses. And if you have an Oppo Pen, you can use it on either screen.
The Internal Hardware
No one is surprised that Oppo chose to go with the very best chip currently on the market—the Oppo Find N5 is the kind of phone that clearly wants no reason to be deemed inferior to its rivals. As follows, the Snapdragon 8 Elite takes the driver’s seat, though a binned version with one less core. Despite that, it won’t struggle to provide plenty of power and enough for today’s AI-filled workflows.
With 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, there should be no complaints in performance. You get Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and even an IR blaster. I think I like this phone a lot.
The Battery and Charging
For a device as thin as this one is, it’d be hard to have a battery of any substantial size in it, right? It’s hardly a misguided assumption, but Oppo refuses to play by the rules of our expectations. With the magic of silicon-carbon, they’ve managed to fit a 5,600mAh battery inside this device. It’s not the biggest battery we’ve seen in a foldable, but for this degree of slimness, it needs to be paid attention to.
There’s no excuse for any manufacturer that wants to play in the big leagues not to have wired and wireless charging that’s as fast as you can get. This phone manages to fit 80W wired and 50W wireless charging into its sleek build.
The Cameras
Of course, what would I be doing if I didn’t take you to talk about that massive camera module on the back of the Oppo Find N5? The Hasselblad partnership continues, so that’s the Hasselblad Master Camera System.
The primary camera is a wide-angle lens with a 50MP sensor and OIS—that setup has sort of found itself the standard these days. That comes with a 50MP periscope telephoto camera (that can double for macro shots) with 3x optical zoom and OIS, as well as an 8MP ultrawide camera. Both displays have holes punched in them to make for an identical 8MP selfie camera.
The Software
With Android 15 and ColorOS 15 on top of it, you can be sure that this phone will have a bunch of cool features to make use of the powerful SoC and multiple displays. Expect four years of major Android updates and five years of security updates.
You get features like Boundless View, which lets you multitask with up to three apps at a time. You also get a bunch of AI features like AI Search, AI Call Summary, and a new Dual-Screen Interpreter feature.
Plus, the O+ Connect app will make it possible for you to remotely access your Mac computer from your Oppo smartphone, even when it is nowhere near you.
The Pricing and Availability
Today’s Oppo Find N5 launch was global, which means we can be happy it isn’t just a China-exclusive device. That makes it easier to get. However, the chance that it will come to North America seems unlikely, and that’s even worse now that we know the OnePlus Open 2 isn’t coming. It will cost $2,499 SGD, which converts to about $1,869 USD. For European buyers, that will come to a €1,799 price tag.
