Oppo Find X8 Mini Won’t Compromise on Flagship Performance

My hands are relatively large, so I’ve never minded as big phones continued to get bigger and bigger. However, that’s not the preference for a lot of people and it is why compact flagship phones had a market. Unfortunately, without a vanilla Asus Zenfone 11, it seems that the age of devices with sub-6-inch displays has ended.

The definition of a compact phone has changed over time, so I’ll leave it up to you to decide if Oppo’s upcoming Find X8 Mini, with its 6.3-inch display, classifies as a compact device. However, that’s not what we’re here for—it’s the fact that we now have a proper glimpse into the device’s specs, and it’ll be a flagship in every sense.

Digital Chat Station is arguably the most reputable leaker when it comes to anything related to smartphones emerging from China. He has brought some new info related to Oppo’s Find X8 series, but this time, the yet-to-be-released Mini model is the subject of a post from him.

He’s confirmed that the Oppo Find X8 Mini is going to be coming with a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chip, and that’s good news since it means that the Mini is going to be a full-blown flagship, despite its smaller frame compared to the rest of the Find X8 family. The best compact flagships never cut down on non-size-related specs like the processor or storage, and the Find X8 Mini won’t do that either.

The Other Leaked Specifications Are as Expected for a Flagship Phone

Besides the chip of choice, Digital Chat Station has confirmed that the Find X8 Mini will come toting a flat 6.31-inch LTPO display with a 1.5K resolution and an unmentioned but almost certain 120Hz refresh rate. It will also have a triple-camera setup, with each lens being a 50MP unit. The primary camera will use a Sony IMX9 sensor. One camera will be a 50MP periscope telephoto, though the magnification isn’t certain.

We also know some other basic details, such as the fact that it’ll be coming with an optical fingerprint sensor and it will have wireless charging support.

The device is expected to show up in this quarter of the year, and it is going to launch alongside the much more intense Oppo Find X8 Ultra. I’m excited to see them both.

What Classifies as a Compact Phone in a Year Like 2025?

The Oppo Find X8 Mini is going to have a 6.3-inch screen. Years ago, that was massive, but with bezels being nearly non-existent, an increase of over 1 inch in screen size doesn’t mean a significantly larger device compared to back then. These days, you can consider the screen to essentially be the entire footprint of the phone.

So, as we’ve nearly reached the endgame of bezels, it begs the question: what counts as a compact phone now? There are very few modern phones with sub-6-inch displays, and the shocking majority of them are rugged phones.

Considering that the smallest devices offered by companies like Google, Xiaomi, and Vivo all dance around that 6.3-inch mark, it looks like that’s what we’re going to have to accept as the new “compact” or “mini”. It’s very unlikely that any OEM is going to target devices under that screen diagonal moving forward. So yeah, I guess we just have to accept the Find X8 Mini as one of those compact flagships that we’ve missed so much.
