OPPO Reno8 Lite 5G Review – OPPO fans who are looking for something good to be use as a daily driver without paying too much should look no further than the OPPO Reno8 Lite 5G. It also costs less than the higher-end OPPO Find X family and for most mobile users, this is a more-than-enough phone to be used as a primary phone.

It also has a unique Dual Orbit lights around the rear camera lenses if you are looking for something different and also powered by some good specs.

OPPO Reno8 Lite 5G is a shiny phone from OPPO in good package. In terms of specs, the phone is powered by an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon™ 695 (SDM695) processor with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of ROM for internal storage. It has a 6.43-inch AMOLED display (Full HD resolution/1080p) with 90.8% screen ratio and a 60Hz refresh rate, which is pretty good.

It’s a snappy phone overall while I switch from one application to the next, and it also feels smooth while I’m browsing my social media feed with the phone. The OPPO Reno8 Lite 5G was actually granted a TÜV SÜD 36-Month Fluency Rating A certification for its smoothness in giving users good experience. However, I do find it funny that the cheaper A96 actually has more refresh rate (90Hz) compared to the Reno8 Lite 5G’s 60Hz. For most people the differences may not be noticeable and I believe having a lower refresh rate actually saves more battery life, so I guess that’s that.

The display itself is bright and clear. You can’t go wrong with having an AMOLED display on a piece of phone. I didn’t seem to have any problem looking at the screen as I took it out during a really sunny afternoon here in Melbourne. Watching YouTube videos or looking at photos are great on the large 6.43-inch screen while the phone is comfortable enough to be held with one hand. The phone only weighs 173 gram so it’s a great phone to grip.

For screen unlocks, OPPO Reno8 Lite 5G supports both facial and fingerprint unlocking, which is on-display. The speed of unlocking is moderate – I don’t find it lightning fast, but not finding it slow either.

Let’s talk about Dual Orbit Lights which is a unique feature advertised for this phone. In a nutshell, it’s an underglow lighting under the rear camera lens ring cap. In technicality, of course it is more complex than that. According to OPPO, this is a result of hundreds of hours of engineering. The lights also only take 1% of power consumption every 2 hours.

The Dual Orbit Lights are not just there for the show though. It’s used for visual notifications when calls or messages come in. Is it worth turning this on for a sleek and stylish visual notification? Only you can answer on that one. I think if you usually place your phone upside down on the desk, it’s worth having the visual notification on. But if you don’t, you might as well turn this feature off and save a few percent of battery life during the day.

The phone houses a large 4,500mAh battery and supports OPPO’s 33W SUPERVOOC which delivers 31% charge in 15 minutes and 100% charge in just 63 minutes. You do need to use the included OPPO charger to utilise this charging tech.

OPPO Reno8 Lite 5G Review – Cameras and Sample Photos

The phone is equipped with 3 rear camera system: a 64MP main camera, a 2MP monochrome depth camera, and a 2MP macro camera.

I was able to take the phone on a sunny Melbourne day to take some shots. The phone itself managed to take decent shots even when the sun glare went straight into the lenses. The HDR algorithm definitely kicked in a few times to ensure I got good results despite the harsh lights and shadows. The AI Scene Enhancement also helped in doing the post-production processing, adding nice contrast and other touches to the shots.

And as always, phones within this price range usually struggles when things get dark. The Reno8 Lite 5G can still take decent shots at night, but usually moving objects (even as slow as a tram) will be blurry and some shots can get pretty dark without enough lights.

OPPO Reno8 Lite 5G is OPPO’s great, 5G, mid-range phone that is packed with good performance to be used as a primary phone. It is sleek and feels really good and light in hand. It doesn’t feel bulky and has a 6.43-inch AMOLED display for perfect content consumption. It gets an official certificate for smoothness in usage, supports 5G + Dual-Sim, and has a unique, underglow lighting as visual cues when you get app notifications. This is only useful if you normally place your phone face-down though, so it can be a gimmicky feature to some.

Overall, OPPO Reno8 Lite 5G is another OPPO’s great creation with good performance, at quite a budget price!
