Oppo will let you control a MacBook with its latest foldable [Gallery]

A new feature debuting on the Oppo Find N5 will allow Mac users to control their machines from their smartphones, as well as better integrating their phone with macOS overall.

Oppo has been pushing to better support users who are also in Apple’s ecosystem. Last year, the company launched O+ Connect’s ability to wirelessly transfer files between Oppo and OnePlus smartphones and iOS devices, similar to AirDrop. Now, O+ Connect is expanding to Mac.

Starting with the Oppo Find N5, O+ Connect will be able to integrate in two ways between your Oppo device and a macOS device, such as a MacBook. On the one hand, the Mac app will be able to grant wireless access to files on your smartphone, allowing you to easily pull files, photos, and even notes without actually opening your phone.

The more interesting option, though, is remote control of your Mac from the Oppo Find N5.

Using the 8.12-inch internal display of the Find N5, users can see their Mac’s display on one half of the foldable, with a keyboard and trackpad on the other side, as pictured above. Oppo explains:

When connected, put Find N5 in FlexForm Mode for laptop-style working, and the bottom half of the folded display becomes a trackpad. You can now use your macOS device with all the super-intuitive gestures you already know: zoom in and out with a two-finger pinch, scroll up or down as you glide two fingers across the display, open Mission Control with a three-finger swipe up, navigate between workspaces with three fingers and open launchpad by pinching in with four fingers.

While file sharing requires both devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network, remote control works even if your Mac is far away from the phone, a handy option while away from home perhaps.

Some of this functionality will presumably be coming to other Oppo (and maybe OnePlus) smartphones in time, but the foldable form factor certainly makes this much more useful.

The Oppo Find N5 is launching globally – but not in the US – this week.
