When Nothing gave birth to CMF, I personally didn’t expect them to ever release a smartphone, but I was clearly very misguided with that assumption, as we’ve been aware of the impending arrival of the CMF Phone 1 for quite some time now.
We’ve been getting several teasers, but now we have our best look ever at the back of the device, from official sources. On top of that, we know more about the accessories the device is coming with, its launch date, and how it will be bringing back removable back covers.
The CMF Phone 1 Brings Back The Forgotten Concept Of Removable Back Panels
The CMF Phone 1 is the first smartphone from CMF By Nothing, and the company has made the sensible decision to aim for the budget segment instead of the unforgiving flagship range. Working in the lower tiers is better because it gives the company a lot more space to try to be different, which it very clearly is trying to be.
Today, on Day 8 of CMF By Nothing’s campaign to reveal different parts of the device, we finally get to see the back panel. The panel is flat, with some spaces for screws, which quite excitingly reveals that the company is embracing the forlorn concept of removable back covers. You’ll be able to unscrew your existing back panel using the SIM ejector tool/screwdriver tool and change out the panel. We know there will be black, light green, orange, and blue options from launch.
The CMF Phone 1 Will Be Able To Support A Series Of Official Accessories
In the bottom-right corner of the devices, there’s a socket that will allow you to customize your CMF Phone 1 by adding accessories to it. For instance, CMF has shown off a lanyard, a kickstand, and some kind of back panel attachment with a bulge in it — a battery pack, maybe?
The Officially-Confirmed Specs Of The CMF Phone 1
We’ve heard quite a lot about the spec sheet of the upcoming device thanks to CMF’s official social media channels.
For instance, we know to expect a 120Hz 6.67-inch Super AMOLED display with 2,000-nit peak brightness and HDR10+ support. It will also have a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 and a 5,000 mAh battery (which CMF claims should give you 22 hours straight of YouTube viewing.
We know the primary camera is going to be a 50MP f/1.8 Sony unit, but the other lens is still a mystery. There’s a mention of up to 16GB of RAM, though I am of the opinion this is sneaky marketing as that likely includes the total with a “RAM Boost” feature. I’d be surprised if a budget phone truly has 16GB of RAM.
