Our top 5 tech takeaways from CES 2025

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) lit up the tech world this week with its huge slay of announcements, reveals and prototypes for what can only be described as the future of the industry. While “AI” was generally the selling point for most of what was announced, there were some great innovations for the familiar names in the industry.

While we’re wrapping up our top five takeaways from CES 2025, it is important to note that some are prototypes and design ideas that may never see a full release. Let’s dive in!

Lenovo Legion Go S

One of our favourites of 2024 is back with a new model. This upgraded Lenovo Legion Go S has a completely revamped ergonomic design with grips that don’t detach and an increased cooling system that makes the unit much more comfortable to hold. The screen is an 8-inch 120HZ display and runs Windows 11 using the Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip. It is backed by a whopping 32 GB of RAM and a 55.5 wh battery life. There is a pair of USB-C ports on the top of the console alongside a MicroSD card for expansion.

The newer model will be released later this year and is the first third-party handheld PC to come native with Steam OS. This replaces Windows 11 and will give users full access to their Steam Library as well as Cloud Saves. This unit is coming to the US in May this year with a $499 (USD) price tag.

ASUS Zenbook A14

The ASUS Zenbook laptops are known for being among the most powerful and portable devices in the PC community. The ASUS Zenbook A14 takes the lineup forward offering a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Series processor that fuels Windows 11 and Microsoft’s Copilot AI. The 32-hour battery life on a single charge combined with this level of performance is simply astounding, and we cannot wait to get our hands on this to put it through its paces.

Samsung Frame Pro

The Samsung Frame combines traditional TV functionality with the slim design and matte design of wall art, allowing you to take advantage of awesome QLED technology while watching TV and displaying beautiful art when it’s not in use.

This new model features a Neo QLED display with some bright colours and a 144Hz refresh rate for flawless motion. There is also a new wireless connect box for all of your devices to stream to it wire-free to do away with any ugly wires dangling down. It is the perfect step-up for this TV/art hybrid and will be released in Australia later this year.

Sony Afeela

Sony’s first venture into motor vehicles, this electronic car is a joint venture with Honda that pushes the limits of what tech can be housed in a car. There are screens all over the dashboard and over 40 sensors and cameras for semi-autonomous driving assistance combined with all-wheel drive.

It certainly bolsters that luxury EV space and while it looks fantastic, is only slated for release locally in the US at this stage.

Shark CryoGlow Mask

Shark’s entering the beauty industry with a new CryoGlow Mask. The LED light therapy facial device delivers red and blue lights alongside a medical-grade cooling system backed by stainless steel for under the eyes.

You can select your treatment that ranges from 5 to 15 minutes daily and features InstaChill pads to cool your eyes. Sharks are no strangers to innovation and we can’t wait to see if this releases in Australia.

And that’s a wrap! While we hope all of these come to fruition and eventually make their way down to Australia, it’s always amazing to simply witness the newest breakthroughs in technology across the world.
