Last year Peloton had to halt sales of its Tread machine and eventually issued a recall for both its smart connected treadmills after several reports of injury and one fatality. However, now it’s back and better than ever with a new design that’s safer, smaller, and better.
Prior to the recall, Peloton’s CEO insisted that the injuries and death were caused by user error and poor parental supervision. The Tread received the most attention, as its large touchscreen could wobble loose, detach, and fall on users.
Today, Peloton announced that the newer, safer Tread would be available in the US, Canada, and the UK starting August 30th. The Peloton Tread will run you $2,495.
The newly redesigned Tread has a smaller overall design, a traditional running belt, and a smaller 23.8-inch touchscreen display that’s more securely attached to the unit. As a comparison, the Tread+ packs a large 32-inch screen. Along with the new design, Peloton added safety features, including a “Tread Lock” passcode for users, not to mention a physical safety “stop” key users can pull to turn off the treadmill.
Tread Lock is available to All-Access and basic members, and those who own the recalled Tread unit can get it repaired and updated for free.
Those interested can get the new Peloton Tread for $2,495 starting August 30th.
